The Open Measurement Software Development Kit (OM SDK) initiative was created to address key challenges faced by the digital advertising ecosystem in relation to scaling third-party measurement of ads served within mobile app environments. It is the outcome of collaboration among several industry participants.
With the Open Measurement SDK, we look forward to:
- Supporting independent third-party measurement from multiple sources with a single SDK integration
- Standardizing the collection of key signals that serve as inputs for measurement of viewability and other attention metrics
- Increasing the scale of measurable inventory and thus providing more transparency to buyers through consistent, accurate measurement
- Encouraging collaboration among industry members, including publishers, ad providers, and measurement vendors, to solve measurement challenges in the mobile app environment in a scalable manner
The initial scope for OM SDK is to capture viewability metrics for mobile in-app ads, including display, video, interstitials, and native ads.
The limited release, which we just announced on October 4, is a beta roll out of the OM SDK to the members of the Open Measurement Working Group for testing and is an important first step in introducing this SDK to market. While the SDK has gone through extensive review and testing within the Open Measurement Working Group, which develops and maintains the SDK, the limited release is a key next phase in collecting feedback from integration partners and making any necessary adjustments before the SDK is launched broadly. The working group members will be closely involved in the limited release and supporting integration partners as they integrate and test the OM SDK for the first time. We are excited about this next step both in terms of its significance for the project itself and the industry as a whole, and we look forward to sharing further updates with you here.
