The open web is stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place. On one side, signal loss—driven by the deprecation of third-party cookies and privacy-centric browser shifts—threatens to commoditize high-quality publisher data. On the other, the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) creates a “value gap” where content is scraped to train AI without direct compensation or citation, bypassing the traditional ad-supported visit.
In this challenging environment, IAB Tech Lab serves as a critical defense mechanism, with many of our highest priority initiatives, such as Trusted Server and CoMP, focused directly on these threats. Membership transforms a publisher from being negatively impacted by market shifts into a strategic architect of the new economy.
As publishers wrestle with these critical issues, they also need to ensure that Agentic Buying does not pass them by or further threaten margins. Tech Lab’s AAMP (Agentic Advertising Management Protocols) framework includes Buyer and Seller Agent SDKs that have built-in skills that respect and rely on the existing standards and specifications you use every day. Download and customize these SDKs as a common framework to supercharge your agentic development.
Through the LLM Content Monetization Protocols (CoMP), members are building the “technical plumbing” needed to help create a sustainable quality-information supply chain. CoMP outlines a process by which licensed AI Systems can request and receive data from Content Owners efficiently, enabling the market to unlock new monetization models. Version 1.0 of this critical specification is now ready to implement—with Bot Management Guidance coming soon!
Our Trusted Server initiative enables publishers to move ad logic from the browser (where it’s blocked) to their own edge infrastructure. This preserves first-party signals and prevents “data leakage” to third-party scrapers, keeping your audience data within your own ecosystem, leading to increased CPMs, and better website performance for your users. Trusted Server creates resilient growth framework for programmatic advertising.
As part of the Agentic Advertising Management Protocols (AAMP) framework, our Seller Agent Reference Implementation lays out how Buyer and Seller Agents can communicate. We also demonstrate the Agentic Protocols, infused with existing standards used to the benefit of both sides of the value proposition. Additionally, Tech Lab has created an Agent Registry to create trust and transparency throughout the agentic supply chain.
